§73-61-1. Tattooing
- Nobody shall allowed placing a tattoo upon the human body for compensation without registration in the State Dept. of Health within Mississippi. All information about tattooing (i.e. facilities or premises) shall be specified in the registration, this facility is allowed to registered person only and authorized to carry out tattooing only in specified premises.
- For this section:
- Tattooing means a method, which is used to make a mark or indelible marks or designs in the human skin by a needle or other instruments.
- Tattoo means indelible marks.
- Validity for registration shall be one year. An annual fee is allowed for each registered person under this section to the department in a amount set by them only.
- Representatives of the department may visit any tattoo studio at any time during the working hours to see/ensure compliance with the requirements and rule and regulations (officially announced under this section). At least one visit per year is must for the representative of the department to inspect for compliance.
- Minor's tattooing (i.e. under the age of 18) shall be unlawful.
- Placing a tattoo upon the human body for compensation without first registration with the department is illegal/unlawful and a registration of such a person has been suspended or revoked by the department.
- The State Board of Health shall announced rules and regulations relating to:
- General sanitation, cleanliness of the premises in which tattooing is/to be performed.
- Sterilization of tattooing equipments and proper disposal of tattooing equipments.
- Preventive procedures to prevent the disease or infection transmission relating to the tattooing methods. This includes (but not limited to) HIV and / or Hepatitis B transmission.
