Title 20 : Maryland Tattoo Artists And Body Piercing Artists Act.

Subtitle 1 : Definitions and General Provisions. 20-101.

  1. Board - It means the state board of tattoo artists and body piercing artists.

  2. Body Piercing Artist - It means the individual who practices body piercing.

  3. Body Piercing Artist License - It means the board to practice body piercing issued license.

  4. License - It means unless the context requires otherwise, a license issued by the board to practice tattooing or to practice body piercing.

  5. Licensed Body Piercing Artist - It means a licensed body piercing artist by by the board to practice body piercing.

  6. Licensed Tattoo Artist - It means a tattoo artist who is having a license issued by the board to practice tattooing.

    1. Practice Body Piercing - It means to penetrate the mucous membrane or the skin of a person for the purpose of inserting jewelry or other forms of body adornment.
    2. Practice Body Piercing - It do not include earlobe piercing using disinfected ear piercing gun and single use, sterile studs and clutches.

  7. Practice Tattooing - It means to make design or mark on the skin of an individual :
    1. by pricking an ingraining an indelible pigment into the skin or
    2. by making scars on the skin.

  8. Tattoo Artist - It means a person who practices tattooing.

Subtitle 2 : State Board Of Tattoo Artists And Body Piercing Artists.

There is a State Board of Tattoo Artists and Body Piercing Artists in The Department : 20-202.

A] The Board includes in all five members and those five members are as follows:

  1. A licensed tattoo artist, who had practiced tattooing in this state for 5 years at least, immediately before appointment
  2. A licensed body piercing artist, who shall had practiced body piercing in this state for 5 years at least, immediately before appointment
  3. A health care professional, but have license from this state only and
  4. Two consumer members.

B] Each member of the board shall be a citizen of the US states and a resident of this state.
