Sec. 19a-92a. Regulation of persons engaged in tattooing. Penalty. (a) For the purposes of this section:

  • Tattooing - It means marking or coloring, in an indelible manner, the skin of a person by pricking in coloring matter or by producing scars.
    1. Person other than a physician shall not be engaged in tattooing, or a nurse rendering service under the direction, control and responsibility of a physician of a physician.

    2. Person who is minor, under eighteen years of age shall not tattoo without the permission of the parent or guardian.

    3. In accordance with chapter 54, the Department of Public Health shall adopt these regulations in order to implement the provisions of this section.

    4. Person who violates any regulations and provision of this section shall be fined not more than one hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.

Who may practice medicine or surgery

  1. Person shall not practice, for compensation, gain or reward, received or expected, diagnose, treat, operate for or prescribe for any injury, deformity, ailment or disease, actual or imaginary, of another person, nor practice surgery, until he has got a license as provided in section 20-10, and then only in the kind or branch of practice stated in such license.

  2. These provisions shall not apply to:
    • Dentists who is practicing dentistry only
    • Person who is in the employ of the US government and acting in the scope of his employment
    • Person who furnishes medical or surgical assistance in cases of any emergency
    • Person residing out of this state who is employed to come into this state to render temporary assistance to or consult with any physician or surgeon who has been licensed in conformity with the provisions of this chapter;
    • Technician who is engaged in tattooing in accordance with the provisions of section 19a-92a and any regulations adopted there under.

Sec. 53-41 Tattooing of persons restricted.

Section 53-41 is repealed, effective May 23, 1994
