Washington State's Marriage Ceremony Officiating Requirements
Washington Marriage License Information
Identification and Residency Requirement: Photo or picture id is primary requirement in some country. But you should know your social id number. Not necessary to be resident of Washington.
If Previously Married: Divorce Confirmation is must before you can apply for a marriage license.
Covenant Marriages: No.
Wait Period: Three days waiting period.
Marriage Fees Required: A fee varies from place to place in Washington. Approximately charge is $46 while others take $62 and more. Credit cards and checks are not allowed in some places.
Marriage for Same-Sex Options:
No. However, as of July 22, 2007, gays, lesbians and unmarried seniors in domestic partnerships will have rights concerning hospital visititation, inheriting property without a will, emergency health care, funeral arrangements, and disposition of remains. To qualify for these rights, couples will have to register with the Office of the Secretary of State.
Proxy Marriages: No. However, if both of you unable to apply for getting marriage license application at the same time, you can apply though an Absentee Marriage Application. To get more information, please contact your county office.
Cousin Marriage: Not allowed.
Common Law Marriage Option: Not allowed.
Under 18 Marriages: If applicant is in between 17 and 18, then need to have a parent's permission (presence) with them to provide their consent. For applicant who is under 17 years old age must have permission from a superior court judge of the country.
Marriage Ceremony Officiants: Any authorized or appointed person and justices of the peace.
Witnesses: Two witnesses are required at your marriage ceremony.
Marriage license validity in Washington is for 60 days. You can not use this certificate in another country.
