Adopting Parties

  • Followings may place a child for adoption:
    Statute: - § 26.33.160
    • The Department.
    • An agency (child placing).
    • Parents or Guardians.

  • Followings may adopt a child :
    Statute: - § 26.33.140
    • A legal, capable person.
    • A person of age eighteen or older.

Putative Fathers

Washington State does not have a Putative Father Registry.

  • What are the registry requirements to receive notice?
    Statute: - §- § 26.26.320; 26.33.110
    • He should sing a paternity acknowledgment with the intent to establish paternity.
    • He must file a claim of paternity.

  • Registry Information :
    Statute: - § 26.26.305
    • A record must contain a paternity acknowledgment
    • A paternity acknowledgment must be signed by the parents (mother and father searching it)
    • A child should not have other adjudicated father.
    • Information about genetic testing, if yes then whether the demand for paternity is reliable with the test result.

  • Registry Information Access :
    Statute: - § 26.26.360

    All information relating to the paternity acknowledgment should be given to:

    • The acknowledgment signatory or their attorney of record
    • The court (WA state or any other State)
    • The child support agencies (WA state or any other State).
