Adopting Parties
- Followings may place a child for adoption:
Statute: - §- § 48.837; 48.833
- Parents having custody of the child may place the child for adoption.
- The Department may also place the child for adoption.
- An authorized agency may place the child for adoption.
- Followings may adopt a child :
Statute: - § 48.82
- A State resident.
- A couple (wife and husband).
- Any unmarried person
Putative Fathers
Virginia State does not have a Putative Father Registry.
- What are the registry requirements to receive notice?
Statute: - § 48.025(2)
- A putative father can register a parental interest before the termination period of the parental rights of the putative father.
- This declaration should be signed and written by the putative father.
- Registry Information :

- In declaration, you should include:
- The name with full address of birth mother and the putative father
- Birth date of child (month and year)
- A statement
- Paternity Revocation (of claim):
Statute: Not addressed.
- Registry Information Access :
Statute: - § 48.025(3)
- This information is sent to the birth mother of child.
