Laws for Infant safe Haven

  • Age Requirements :
    Statute: - § 62A-4a-801

    The child must be seventy two hours old or younger.

  • The following may relinquish the Infant :

    • Parent's Designee and Parents.

  • The following may receive the Infant :
    Statute: - § 62A-4a-802
    • Hospital may receive the Infant.

  • Safe Haven Provider Responsibilities :
    Statute: - § 62A-4a-802
    • They should provide all required medical care.
    • If required, they can requests for identifying and medical information.
    • Notification should be done within 24 ours to the DCFS(Division of Child and Family Services).
    • Making birth certificate for child.

  • Parental Rights :
    Statute: - § 62A-4a-802
    • If you want to terminate the parental rights, then you have to file the petition within 10 days.
    • Two week period is required to establish a paternity.
    • A well conditioned and potential home is necessary for placing the child.
