Adopting Parties

  • Followings may place a child for adoption:
    Statute: - § 62A-4a-602
    • Parent.
    • An authorized agency.

  • Followings may adopt a child :
    Statute: - §- § 78-30-1; 78-30-2; 78-30-3
    • A legal married couple.
    • Any adult.
    • A stepparent.
    • Cohabiting persons are not allowed to adopt the child.
    • Age difference between adoptee and adoptive parson must be at least 10 years.
    • Consent from spouse is must for married person.

Putative Fathers

Utah State does not have a Putative Father Registry.

  • What are the registry requirements to receive notice?
    Statute: - § 78-30-4.13(3)(a); (5)
    • Reply to the notice of an adoption petition within thirty days is must for the putative father.
    • The notice of birth or adoption proceedings is allowed for putative father.
