Laws for Infant safe Haven
- Age Requirements :
Statute: - § 25-5A-27The child must be sixty days old or less than that.
- The following may relinquish the Infant :
Statute: - § 25-5A-27- A parent may relinquish the infant.
- Safe Haven Provider Responsibilities :
Statute: - §- § 25-5A-27; 25-5A-30; 25-5A-32- They can take any action to protect the child and his health.
- They can take medical information from the parents.
- They can notify the Social Services Department.
- The following may receive the Infant :
Statute: - §- § 25-5A-27; 25-5A-34- Clinic or health care facility
- Firefighter
- Child placing agency
- Emergency medical technician etc.
- Parental Rights :
Statute: - §- § 25-5A-29; 25-5A-33; 25-5A-35- After fourteen days, the child has been taken under the protection of the State, and the parental rights are terminated.
- Thirty days period is given for new ones to file for child custody.
- Parental rights termination hearing is held after the sixty days.
