    Statute: - § 20-7-1670
    • Any SC State resident
    • A non-resident can adopt the child:
      • If he/she is a military member
      • An authorized or legally freed child in foster care
      • A special needs a child

Putative Fathers

South Carolina State does not have a Putative Father Registry.

  • What are the registry requirements to receive notice?
    Statute: - §- § 20-7-1734; 20-7-1690
    • A putative father can register a parental interest.
    • Filing a notice and valid reasons to consent, are must for putative father. Otherwise, he must respond within thirty days of receiving the adoption proceedings notice.
