Laws for Infant safe Haven

  • Age Requirements :
    Statute: - §- § 7B-500; 14-322.3

    A child must be seven days old or younger.

  • The following may relinquish the Infant :
    Statute: - § 14-322.3
    • Parents.

  • Safe Haven Provider's Responsibilities :
    Statute: - § 7B-500
    • They can take any act necessary for child's health.
    • They must notify the Department of Social Services or Law enforcement agency.
    • They may obtain identification information and medical history from the parents.

  • The following may receive the Infant :
    Statute: - § 7B-500
    • Any adult, employees from social services and emergency medical service, health department, health care provider at hospital, law enforcement officer etc. may receive the infant.

  • Parental Rights :
    Statute: - § 7B-500
    • They can take temporary custody of the child.
