    • A legal agency
    • A legal guardian
    • A parents
    • A person having a legal custody of the child

  • Followings may adopt a child :
    Statute:
    • An adult.
    • Spouse may not adopt between themselves.

Putative Fathers

North Carolina State does not have a Putative Father Registry.

  • What are the registry requirements to receive notice?
    Statute: - §- § 48-2-206(a), (c); 48-2-401
    • The putative father may file within fifteen days from the date of notice of adoption.
    • If he fails to respond, then he is not entitled to further proceedings notice.
