Adopting Parties
- Followings may place a child for adoption:
Statute: - § 9:3-39.1- The parents
- The legal guardian of the child
- An authorized child-placing agency
- Followings may adopt a child :
Statute: - § 9:3-43- Any adult of age 18 years or older and ten years older than the adoptee may adopt the child.
- Any married couple may adopt the child jointly.
Putative Fathers
New Jersey State does not have a Putative Father Registry.
- What are the registry requirements to receive notice?
Statute: - §- § 9:3-45; 9:3-45.1- If the putative father has objection, he can file written objection within twenty days from the date of notice receipt of adoption proceedings (for NJ residents only).
- Non-residents can file it within thirty five days.
