Laws for Infant safe Haven

• Age Requirements :
  Statute: - § 40-6-402

  A child must be thirty days old.

• The following may relinquish the Infant :

  • Any person
  • Parents

• The following may receive the Infant :
  Statute: - § 40-6-402
  • Any emergency services provider may receive the infant.

• Safe Haven Provider Responsibilities :
  Statute: - §- § 40-6-405; 40-6-406
  • They should provide the required medical care to the child.
  • Provide the necessary information about the relinquishment and different services available.
  • Provide the medical history to the parents
  • Take any action to protect the child's health.

• Parental Rights :
  Statute: - § 40-6-405
  • If parents want to regain the custody of the child, he must petition within sixty days.
  • The parents can relinquish the child for the adoption, according to its acts.
