How to access adoption records?

  • Obtain non identifying information:

    Non-identifying information may be obtained by adopted adults (age 18 or above), adoptive or legal parents, or offspring or adopted adult's birth siblings (age 18 or above). Mississippi Adoption Laws

    If adopted adult's birth sibling, adopted adult, adoptive or legal guardian of adopted adult or offspring ask for more information about adopted adult or birth parent. They also request to the agency to search more information.

  • Obtain identifying information:

    The information about birth parents can be received by adopted adults whose age is 21 or above.

    For searching the birth parents or contact of birth parents adopted adults request to the agency.

    Adopted adults also appeal to court.

  • Obtain an original birth certificate:

    If the birth parents file an affidavit of consent then an adopted adult may receive the original birth certificate.
