Adoption expenses regulation
Expenses allowed for birth parent : Statute: § 259.55 Subd. 1
- Legal fees, medical expenses
- Travel expenses, foods, and lodging
- Counseling
- Adoption services provided by an agency
- Living expenses
Expenses not allowed for birth parent :Statute: §259.55 Subd. 1
- Does not include gifts, educational expenses, lost wages, etc.
- Expenses for living shall not extend beyond six weeks after delivery.
Expenses allowed for arranging adoption :Statute: §259.55 Subd. 3(b)
If the person is engaged in any placement activity may not give money or anything of value to the birth parent.
Expenses allowed for relinquishing child : Statute: § 259.55 Subd. 2, 3
- To give or accept payment for the placement of a child for adoption it is unlawful
- A birth parent refuses to consent or withdraw consent to adoption when reimbursement for expenses is not allowed.
- Payment shall not be possible upon placement, consent or cooperation in the completion of an adoption.
