State haven laws for Infants

• Infant age : Statute: - § 712.1
  • Child should not be more 72 hours.

• Who may relinquish the infant : Statute : - § 712.3
  • Parent of the child.

• Who may receive the infant : Statute : - § 712.1
  • Provides emergency services:
    1. Departments of fire.
    2. Any hospitals.
    3. Police stations.

• Responsibilities of the safe haven provider : Statute : - §- § 712.3; 712.5
  • Temporarily take the child into protective custody.
  • Give the necessary care to the child and if necessary hospitalize the child.
  • To inform to the parent about authority and services, provide written material.
  • For providing family and medical information give confidence to the parents.
  • Inform about child to the child placing agency.
  • For adoption parents are relinquishes their rights to the child to the child placing agency.

• Immunity for provider : Statute: - § 712.2 Yes.

• Protection for relinquishing parent : Statute: - §- § 712.3; 712.20

  • To get back the custody of child the parent has 28 days to appeal court.
