Adoption parties

  • Who can adopt: Statute: Ch. 210 - § 1

    • Minor with spouse to adopt natural child of one of the parties.
    • An adult person.
    • Husband and wife jointly can adopt.

  • Who can be adopted: Statute : Statute: Ch. 210 - § 1

    • A person who is younger than the petitioner, except for aunt or uncle, spouse or sibling.

  • Who can place a child for adoption : Statute: Ch. 210, - §- § 2; 11A

    • Department of Social Services .
    • Licensed child placing agency.
    • The parent(s) of a child.
