Adoption expenses regulation
Expenses allowed for birth parent : Statute: Tit. 18-A, - § 9-306(a)
- Expenses needed to legal fees.
- Costs of medical.
- Service transportation.
- Living expenses for mother which is reasonable.
- Placing agency.
- Expenses for counseling and legal fees for birth father.
- Child's foster care.
Expenses not allowed for birth parent : Statute: Tit.18-A, - § 9-306(c)
Extra expenses or payments to birth guardians are unauthorized.
Expenses allowed for adoption arrangement
It is not addressed in statutes reviewed in Maine.
Expenses allowed for child relinquishment : Statute: Tit.18-A, - § 9-306(c)
- Expenses may be independent on future decisions a birth parent may take about child.
Fees allowed for charges by agency or department : Statute: Tit. 18-A, - § 9-301
- $50 has to pay for filing adoption request.
Expenses accounting as per court requirement : Statute : Tit. 18-A, - § 9-306(b)
- Requester shall file a full accounting of all disbursements made in connection with the adoption.
- It is signed under penalty of perjury and itemized.
