Putative fathers

Registry requirements to receive notice : Statute: R.S. - § 9:400; Ch. C. art. 1133 and 1137(A)

  • The putative father needs to file before or after child's birth.
  • The putative father gets the notice of filing of mother's surrender of the child.
  • For registration, completed Hospital or Department o Health, Office of preventive and Public Health Services are most important.
  • The putative father may oppose an adoption if it is filed within 15 days after service of notice of surrender, if the surrender is not filed.
