How to access adoption records?
- Obtain non identifying information:
It is allowed for adopted adults as well as birth parents of that adult to get some information.
- Obtain identifying information:
The birth parents on request by adopted adult for a cause, the 'Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services' may contacted and also on request of adoptive parents of a child for any medical information needed.
Adoptive parents of a child or the adopted adult can be contacted by the 'Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services' in case of any medical help required. It is not allowed to give the information to the birth parents of adoptee or the adopted adult himself/herself, without the consent of the adoptive parents.

On the request of the adult adoptee or court order, original certificate of birth can have access by the State registrar.
Advertising used and facilitators in adoptive placements
- Advertisement used : Statute: - § 59-2123(a)(1), (b)-(c)
- This law is not applicable for the licensed child placing agencies and organizations.
- It is not at all allowed for anybody to advertise about adopting a child and for finding the adoptive home for a child, or for searching a place for a child to place there.
- As per this section, advertisement is the way to communicate by broadcast, television, handbills, electronic medium, newspaper or radio.
- Intermediaries or facilitators use : Statute: - § 59-2123(a)(2)-(3)
- It is not allowed to offer anybody to adopt, find a home for a child adoption.
