How to access adoption records?
- Obtaining the non identifying information:
It is allowed to the parents who adopted as well as the adoptee, if he or she is adult to get the religious and health related information.
- Obtaining the identifying information:
The adoptions which got finalized on the date or before the date 1st January 1991, parents who adopted the adoptee or the adopted one if adult have to request the law formally for getting the information. After that the court take some action and forward a notice to the respected peoples, who are the last known as the birth parents on their addresses.
In returns if court don't get any response to that, it is allowed to the adult himself/herself to get the information.
In case the adoptions got finalized after 31st December 1990, here adopted one if adult or his/her parents may get information.
- Using the adoption registry:
It can be done by the adopted person if he or she is adult and the real or the birth parents of that adoptee can also register.
- Obtain the original birth certificate:
Adopted person have to petition to the court where his/her adoption was processed and finalized.
