How to access adoption records?

  • Obtain non identifying information:

    Adopted adults of age 18 or mre than that as well as the adoptive parents of adoptee more than 18 years may access the information.

    Non-identifying information is available to adopted adults, adoptive parents as well as the birth parents.

  • Obtain identifying information:

    Aperson who is adopted and of age 21 and more can get the information, if his/her birth parents have filed consent about it. If consent is not on file, intermediary search the birth parents to check wheather the the birth parents can file consent about releasing the information.

    In case the adoptee is deceased and leaves child, that child at the age of 21, may access the name and any other identifying information concerning grandparents.

  • Obtain an original birth certificate:

    Adoptee have to petition the court in which the adoption was finalized.

  • Using the Adoption Registry:

    The persons anyone from these may register:

    1. Birth parents more than 21 years of age.
    2. Adopted adults more than 21 years of age.
    3. Birth siblings more than 21 years of age.
    4. Adoptive parents of an adoptee more than 21 years of age.
