Adoption parties

  • Who can adopt: Statute: - §- § 45a-724; 45a-726a; 45a-732

    Any adult person can adopt, with the following information provided in written:

    • The Commissioner is not required to place a child with a person who is bisexual r homosexual.
    • Both the husband and wife must adopt jointly unless excepted by the court.
    • The adopter sexual orientation is considered when placing a child.

  • Who can be adopted: Statute: - §- § 45a-724; 45a-725

    • Any child of age less than 18 years legally free for adoption, as per this section.

  • Who can place a child for adoption: - §- § 45a-724; 45a-726

    • Any child placing-agency
    • The Commissioner of Children and Families
    • The child's guardians
    • Statutory parent
