Adoption parties

  • Who can adopt: Statute: - § 19-5-202

    • Any person may adopt of age 21 or more than that which also include a foster parent.
    • Minor that is less than 18 years of age for approval may petition the court.
    • Any one living with spouse may adopt jointly.

  • Who can be adopted: Statute: - § 19-5-201

    • Any child of age less than 18 present in the State can be adopted.
    • If approved by the court a person of age more than 18 but less than 21 can be adopted.

  • Who can place a child for adoption: - § 19-5-206

    • The county Department of Social Services
    • The court
    • Licensed child placing agency
    • The birth parents
