How to access adoption records?
- Obtain non identifying information:
Non-identifying information is available to child's guardian, adoptive parents or adopted adults of age 18 or more, also adopted adult's spouse, birth siblings, birth parents, and his or her adult children of age 18 or more, if adopted adult is deceased.
- Obtain identifying information:
Adopted adult of age 21 or more than that or the birth parent may give notarized statement as consent or withholding consent to access this information.
After giving a consent, the information will be given to the requesting party and any one can get it by petitioning the court.
- Using confidential intermediary:
Following persons may use the services of a confidential intermediary:
- adopted adults of age 21 or more than that
- the immediate, adult relatives of age 21 or more than that of a deceased adopted adult
- birth siblings of age 21 or more than that
- legal guardians or adoptive parents of adopted adults of age 18 or more than that
- birth parents or birth grandparents if the birth parents are deceased

- Obtain an original birth certificate:
An adoptee must petition the court in which the adoption was finalized.
