Adoption expenses regulation
Expenses allowed for birth parent : Statute: - § 8-114(A)-(B)
- The living expenses.
- A payment more than $1,000 for birth mother living expenses should be approved by the court.
- Reasonable and necessary expenses, like medical and hospital bills.
- Agency and legal fees.
- A counseling fees.
Expenses not allowed for birth parent : Statute: - § 8-114(G)
Expenses which found unauthorized or unreasonable by the court.
Expenses allowed for adoption arrangement : Statute: - § 8-114(D)
- Attorney may be paid for services in connection with an adoption in the amounts which are reasonable, necessary and approved by the court.
Expenses allowed for child relinquishment : Statute: - §8-114(C)
- A person shall not compensate for giving consent to place a child for adoption except the provision directly or indirectly.
Fees allowed for charges by agency or department : Statute: - §- § 8-133; 12-284
- The fee for an adoption petition filing is $115.
- The court may have fees for investigations.
- The division may have charge for studying and certifying applicants as fees.
Expenses accounting as per court requirement : Statute:- § 8-114(E), (H)
- The petitioner shall file a verified accounting of all fees, payments, or commitments of anything of value.
- All cases shall be reviewed by the court for reasonableness and necessity of expenses.
