How to access adoption records?

  • Obtain non identifying information:

    Adoptive parent or adopted adult of age 18 or older can get the non identifying information.

  • Obtain identifying information:

    Identifying information with the original birth certificate as well as if any changes in birth parent's names or addresses will be given as per the request to adopted adults age 18 or older.

    Birth parents are able to get the identifying information, if adopted adult of age 18 or more has given written request about disclosing the information.

  • Providing information:

    Adopted adults of age 18 or more or the birth parents can also submit the information about the change of name, address to display on the original birth certificate.

  • Obtain an original birth certificate:

    In Alaska birth certificates are available upon request to adopted adults of age 18 or more.
